No umbrellas are necessary. You want something that you can fold away in your handbag, and you can in fact find rather inexpensive ponchos at allowance retailers and even dollar stores!

Don't pack all of your liquid cosmetics! Remember, airlines do not allow whatever over 3 oz, so your designer shampoo/conditioner and such will be thrown away at the terminal. You can buy a small bottle of shampoo/conditioner when you arrive, and likewise with toothpaste and other non-solid toiletries. If you are staying in Waikiki, there is a store on just about every angle that sells these items, and while you are there, you can pick up your moisturizers and sunscreens.

Even if you have a rather rich tan, you will need to wear sunscreen every day! Chances are, you are not used to being in the glaring sun for 8+ hours a day, and being on a small tropical island is like being surrounded by a sun mirror! Put a high-Spf sunscreen on every morning while your vacation, and again nearby lunch time and you will be well-protected. Because the sun can be so drying to the skin, be sure to slather on the body moisturizer some times a day...this will also minimize the dehydrating effects of air travel. And don't forget to drink lots of water!

Now, back to that traveler comment from before. The most prominent thing you can do to put in order for your vacation to Hawaii is to be mindful and respectful. Hawaii is a land of all cultures, a true melting pot. In fact, there is no majority racial group in Hawaii; everybody is a minority! Be respectful of all cultures, have an open heart, and learn what Aloha is quickly. We want you to come to be ohana (family), and the best way to do that is to get out of the traveler mentality and into the local mentality!
