Shawls and Capes - Why They'll Never Go Out of Style

Shawls and capes turn back the pages of time, and the cape is found to be a fastener of class, royalty, power, and glamour. Think Jacky O, King Henry Viii, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Naomi Campbell. Lately, however, it has been misconceived that this piece of fashion accessory has gone out of style, au contraire; this iconic face of penultimate glamour still is very much alive. And we don't mean just on the catwalks of Paris. First, let's not go beyond the borders of mainland Europe to find proof; just not on the catwalk.

In 2005, Pope Benedict Xvi transformed into an instant fashion celebrity when he dressed in a red velvet cape trimmed in ermine while the chance of the Christmas season, in Rome. Although the piece he donned also known as a "mozzetta" has long been part of the official papal attire, it was last seen on a pope in the 1970's by Paul Vi. Apparently, Joseph Ratzinger has the intention to bring it back into the communal eye.

As we stray away from Paris and Rome, we might expect to be on a futile crusade for traces of this fashion piece. Somehow, it may appear that wearing a cape can no longer be thought about posh nowadays. But wait! Who can be more posh than Posh herself? Yes, believe it or not, Victoria Beckham was seen wearing... A cape. If She wears it, then you can expect many others to ensue suit.

Now, not that we can ever dismiss this as a fashion anomaly, but there's other international fashionista who was also seen donning the same kind of fashion accessory... Kylie Minogue. Posh is a fashion trendsetter on her own but with Kylie Minogue putting on her own show as well, it would be safe to say that the trend is in place. It won't be long 'til a number of celebrities from Hollywood will be seen donning such cloaks... And they won't be wearing a Supergirl costume.

Like any fashion accessory, every piece has its permissible place and time. The best time to don these gorgeous cape shawls is when the air is chilly as it is in winter. It can be such a bore or much too warm to wear a jacket every singular day. An occasional change in attire wouldn't hurt your look. A cold night can also be a good fancy to put one on. Although a night at the Opera or a grand ball can be more than enough excuse to wear one as well.

The great thing about this piece of cloth is that it can elevate your appearance to many formal levels upward. This alone can give on you the regal impression you would so desire when you're about to attend an extremely formal affair. A scarf may do the trick, but this one can raise the glamour so many levels higher.

There can be many designs to pick from. If you're not an animal proprietary activist, and wouldn't care less about what such habitancy would have to say, there are those that are collared with rabbit fur or lined with sheep fur. These types can give you that extra warmth on a chilly night. Other popular designs are the velvet designer poncho, mink fur poncho, and the grand cape. All these are best worn over dark colored wardrobes while the night.

There's probably one good reason, aside from the practical one of giving warmth to the bearer, that the cape has stood the test of time: not many, if ever there are, fashion accessories can give upon the bearer a dash of regality and pomp in the same breadth that this singular piece of cloth can.
