Twelve Uses For Parachute Cord - A Great Survival Tool

Parachute cord can be purchased at most Army surplus market and has a wide variety of uses. I am going to list a few ideas here for how to use it. I propose you go to the Army surplus store and be sure to get authentic Army issue parachute cord, not some knock-off you find in a hardware store or major retailer. 550 Parachute cord is much stronger than knock-off brands and has many small fibers inside the outer shell. These small fibers can be extracted and used for many things. The outer shell can also be used without the inner fibers for jobs that wish less compel than the whole cord offers.

Use the inner fibers to floss your teeth in an extended survival situation. You may not have a tooth brush or toothpaste with you, but at least you can floss your teeth if you have parachute cord. Wrap your survival knife cope with para cord. This may give you a more comfortable and best grip, depending on what type of grip your knife came with. If you have your knife with you and find yourself in a survival situation, you can take the cord from your knife cope to use for many distinct survival purposes. You will be surprised at how much cord it will take to wrap your knife cope properly. Make a bow string for a survival bow. Use the inner strings to attach arrow heads to arrows. Use the inner cords to make fishing line. Make a snare. You can use the inner fibers to form snares for smaller animals and birds. Use the inner fibers of your parachute cord to weave a small net for catching minnows and small fish. Make a shoe string from your parachute cord if one of your shoe strings breaks. Use your parachute cord and a piece of leather to make a sling for hunting small game. Make an Ojibwa bird trap from the inner strings of your parachute cord and a walking stick. Make an Apache Throwing Star using the outer shell of your parachute cord and two sticks. Tie your parachute cord to two trees. Stretch a tarp or poncho over the tight line and tie down the corners. This makes a great accident shelter/tent.
